Considering God as a companion, rather than a fatherly figure, is common amongst Catholics. I've spoken to relatives and schoolmates to gather opinions on their relationship with an Almighty figure, and many agree with the reality of God being a best friend. I view God as a man I can talk to who is always prepared to listen. He let's me talk without passing judgment or criticism, and it's nice to know that what I have to say, and the situations that I'm dealing with, matter to Him. Whenever I am struggling with pain, loneliness, or stress I have an automatic comforter. He soothes me by allowing me to express myself without holding back, which is the way a best friend should be.
Without being able to express my true feelings, my anger and frustration builds up, leaving me more stressed than before. Everyone struggles to find who they are in relationship to God, but God can be a friend to everyone if you allow Him to be.
